Help Find Food

FAQ

Straight answers

Is Help Find Food free?

Yes. It is free to use, needs no account, and no restaurant or program pays to be listed or ranked.

How do I find the food bank that serves my address?

Community food banks in Ottawa serve people by postal code. Enter your postal code in the Ottawa Food Bank’s look-up tool at ottawafoodbank.ca/get-help, or call or text 2-1-1. Our food bank page lists all of them with their hours and booking rules.

What do I need to bring to a food bank?

Most Ottawa food banks ask for ID and proof of address, and some ask for ID for each person in your household. Bring your own bags. If you have no ID or no fixed address, contact the food bank anyway — most will still help.

Where can I get a free meal today, or on a weekend?

The food-support page shows what is open right now and later today, built from each program’s published schedule. Shepherds of Good Hope’s Community Kitchen at 216 Murray Street serves three meals every day of the year.

Does anyone see what I search for?

Food-support pages set no advertising cookies and never share what you look at. Searches are sent privately and never put in the page address. Analytics only loads if you allow it in the privacy banner.

Where do the restaurant menus come from?

Only from each restaurant’s own website. We keep the item name and price, link to the page, and show the date we read it. If a restaurant publishes no menu online, we say so.

Are dietary and allergy labels guaranteed?

No. A vegan, halal or gluten-free label is the restaurant’s own claim. Kitchens can have cross-contact — confirm serious allergies with the restaurant before ordering.

Can a restaurant pay to rank higher?

No. Ranking uses only usefulness: published menu items, known hours, independent restaurants, then name. Money is never an input.

Something is wrong in a listing. How do I fix it?

Use “Report a correction” on any listing, or email support@helpfindfood.com. Restaurants can also edit their OpenStreetMap entry directly.

Is this site available in French?

Yes. Food support, guides, restaurants and dishes are all available in French — use the FR button at the top of any page.
